Tips For Creating Photo Greeting Cards
By Gayle Mathius
When you really want to make a lasting impression, think of sending photo greeting cards. While they don”t fit every greeting card occasion, such as sympathy cards, they certainly make sense for much more than just Christmas.
Just a quick example, let’’s say it’’s Halloween and one of your children wants to send a Halloween card to a cousin or friend who lives in another state. Take a few pictures of them in their trick or treat outfit, pick the best one, and make a Halloween photo greeting card for your child to send. It’’s easy to do, won”t cost you anymore than a store-bought card, and it will make a lasting impression.
The child you send the card to will absolutely love it.
All you have to do is be a little creative and you”ll find many uses for photo greeting cards, and once you make a couple you”ll think of even more.
One of the primary reasons that you don”t see a whole lot of them, other than Christmas, is that people think they have to have a professional photographer and it’’s therefore costly. You don”t.
In fact, there are a lot of candid shots used that I like much better, and you would too. For example, my wife has a great shot of her and I at the beach that she uses for her computer screen saver. It would make a great Just Thinking of You photo greeting card. Think I”ll surprise her and make one for her to send to our grandkids. We”re in Florida and they”re in Michigan. Bummer!
For less than $1.50 (much less if you buy in quantity), you can custom make your own photo greeting cards in any one or more of the following categories; Thank You cards, Just Thinking of You cards, Easter, St. Patrick’’s Day, Valentine’’s Day, Mother’’s Day, Father’’s Day, Happy Anniversary, 4th of July, Birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and last, but not necessarily least, you can even make them for New Year’’s.
All you have to do is have several pictures that can work for many different occasions transferred to your computer. With an idea of what pictures can go with which occasions do a Google search to select the company that you would like to work with.
My own personal company of choice works like this.
From their many unique designs, you”ll pick the cards that you think are best for the occasions you want to use them for, add appropriate messages from the well scripted ones available (or write your own), have them printed in stylish fonts with colors, and then upload your photos either on the front or inside, or some of both. The technology will develop and print your photos into the cards, precisely aligning and placing every aspect of your cards so that they look professionally made, yet your choices and photos will give them a distinct personal touch that you cannot get with any store-bought cards.
The next time you have a need for a greeting card, try custom designing your own photo greeting cards. You”ll have fun with it, and your card recipients will absolutely love them.
