Packaging Boxes - Basics Of Moving

By Christian D. Schulze

No matter how many times or how often you have done it, moving is a big challenge for anyone. This is especially true if you have lived in one place for awhile and have a family of several people to move. Moving across town is a challenge but moving across country brings its own sit of considerations and concerns. Packing up the household goods and personal possessions takes some planning and thought in order to ensure everything is secure and will not suffer any damage. Learning a bit about packaging boxes can come in handy when facing a move of any kind.

Moving can seem like an overwhelming task but, like most big jobs, simply breaking it down into smaller and more manageable tasks helps to see the way clear. The first thing to do when the decision has been made to move is to sit down and make a list. List the things that need to be done before packing can begin in earnest. Purging, decluttering and the like come before packaging boxes of belongings off to a new place. Take stock of the rooms to be packed in order to estimate about how many moving boxes you will need.

Packaging boxes for moving can be bought from moving companies, packaging places or found used at any number of stores and factories. Figuring out how many boxes you need is essentially just a guess, you can always go back and get more boxes if need be but it is ideal to overestimate and have a few boxes left. Once you have decided on how many boxes and have either purchased or found the boxes, packing can begin in earnest. Again, this is the time to declutter by donating or throwing away items that are no longer useful to you or anyone in the family.

It is a good idea to remember that, when packing, being overly sure to pack your things well against damage is better than risking your possessions breaking or being damaged in the move. Cushioning things with foam peanuts, bubble wrap, towels and blankets will protect your belongings. This is the way to pack even if the move is just across town. If the move is across country or a long ways, it is a good idea to overwrap and secure, putting just a few fragile things in each box in order to ensure safety.
