Mens Fashion Rules - Brining Out The Clothes Horse In You

By Hendrik Pohl

Most men would be loathe to discuss the latest mens fashion trend and would rarely spend more than a few minutes discussing or even thinking about mens fashion dos and donts. Overt discussions on latest trends and fads are more common when it comes to womens fashion but there are still common fashion flubs that men can fall into. By default, whether spoken about or not, there are a few fashion rules that men should generally follow so that they do not look like they got dressed up in the dark! It has to be said though that these rules are not set in stone. After all, fashion is also about expressing yourself and your individuality.

Rule #1: Ties and Shirts:
When in doubt, remember, you can never go wrong wearing a white button up shirt. With a plain white shirt you can pretty much wear any color of tie.

However, if you are wearing a colored shirt you will want to be sure that the tie you are wearing either matches the shirt in a shade of the same color, or in a color that actually compliments the shirt.

When you choose to wear a tie, most peoples attention will be immediately and instinctively drawn towards that tie. Spending some time selecting one that will go best with the complete outfit and one that is appropriate to the occasion will earn you plenty of admiring glances from the bosses in the boardroom to the ladies at the ballroom.

Rule #2: Belts & Shoes:
If your belt is going to be seen you should think about matching your belt with your shoes. These two accessories can truly balance out any outfit. It is not something you may think consciously about but matching your belt to your shoes is a surefire way to make your outfit truly flow.

The problem is that most men never consider this when putting on a belt. They just assume that nobody is going to be looking at their belt, so they grab the first belt they see and strap it on. This is an absolute fashion no-no! While the belt may not seem like the obvious attention getter, it can make or mar the complete look.

Rule #3: Matching Up Accessories:
If you wear glasses, sunglasses, watches, wrist bands or jewelry of any type you will want to make sure that they match what you are wearing. Too many men fall into the habit of not matching up their accessories with the outfit they are wearing. Unfortunately, this can make any ensemble go from looking stylish to looking tacky in an instant.

Look At Yourself In A Mirror:
The bottom line when it comes to mens fashion rules is to simply look at yourself in the mirror before walking out the front door. If your attention is drawn to any one item on your body, take stock of this and assess whether or not it got your attention because it enhanced the outfit or detracted from it.

Simply looking at yourself in the mirror can save you from walking out of the house and becoming a living fashion joke.
