Dating Tips For Men - Dressing for a First Date
By Hendrik Pohl
In the 90s men were considered acceptably dressed in ripped jeans and flannel shirts. This was a part of the fashion statement made during the decade of grunge and baggies. Things have changed completely since that period with the emergence of the metro male who dresses to impress, especially on an all important first date. It is no longer considered chic for men to appear unkempt.
For a first date, dress smart. Women of today expect men to dress well and tend to judge a man on their appearance during a first date. Keep in mind that the clothes you chose to wear are a reflection of the inner self. On a first date, to make a good impression, choose to wear a clean well put together outfit.
Appropriate for Occasion
Where you are going and what you are doing on the first date determines what you will wear. Do not wear a tux to the zoo and dont wear Nikes to the opera. No matter where you go it is crucial to appear clean, fresh and together. Dress nicely even if only going for pizza. Jeans are fine but be sure they fit well and are not wrinkled or dirty. Do not wear clothes that have holes or armpit stains as this makes a very undesirable impression; you will look like a slob.
Assets
Wear clothing that is a proper fit to emphasize your assets. A simple pair of jeans or khakis with a well matched, good fitting button down polo will flatter your shape regardless of whether your are buff or not so buff. Avoid wearing oversized shirts or shiny shirts. Under-stated simple outfits are best so that your date may focus on getting to know you rather than being detracted by your clothing.
If you are wearing a collared shirt, wearing a tie will give you an extra edge and help you score a few brownie points.
Shoes
Foot wear is one of the things women pay attention to. Nice shoes are critical. Logic predicts that if a man takes care of his clothing and shoes he will take care of a woman. It does not matter what type shoes you wear, just be certain they are clean and polished.
Preparation
For the first date you will want to make a good impression. When getting ready for the date be sure to have a fresh haircut, take a shower, be newly shaven and groom any facial hair. Trim and clean nails. These are all small things you may not do on a daily basis. But, it is the attention to detail and small things that will get you the second date.
Let your personality shine through on your first date. Opt for a vintage velvet jacket if you are a funky sort. If you are a business man and more confident in a suit, wear a suit. Comfort and confidence are an important factor in looking great and having a successful first date.
