A Guitar Shop Sells More Than Just Guitars

By Lola Anderton

If you go to a guitar shop and they don”t sell guitars, you would be pretty concerned! First of all, you would be saying that the name of the shop was wrong and then you would be a bit annoyed about wasting your time. After all, if you were heading to a shop that you thought was selling guitars, you no doubt wanted to see guitars. Thankfully, you won”t find guitar stores that don”t sell guitars but equally, it is very rare that you will find a guitar store that only sells guitars - because there are many more items you can find in these shops.

If you are playing a guitar, you will need a number of accessories and items to make the playing more comfortable and enjoyable. Most guitarists will look to use a plectrum, even though strumming or picking are viable options too, and this is something that a guitar shop will sell in abundance. There are many different sizes and strengths of plectrums so knowing what size you are looking for can be a big help. And if you don”t know what size you are after, ask for assistance from one of the employees who will be more than happy to help out.

If you are playing an electric guitar, it is likely that you will need a strap for your guitar. It can be very difficult to play an electric guitar without a guitar strap and it can only really be done when sitting down. Even then, it isn”t ideal as the shape and finish of the electric guitar may lend itself to sliding off you as you play. This is why a guitar shop will stock a wide range of straps to ensure that you can play the guitar with assurance that the guitar won”t come crashing to the floor.

Anyone looking to play an electric guitar will also need an amplifier of some sort, and again, a guitar shop is the ideal place to head towards if you are looking for an amp. If you are only playing at home, a small amplifier will be more than enough but if you are using the amp for rehearsals or even performances, there can be a need to have a louder piece of equipment at your disposal. This will not be a problem as most guitar store staff know how to turn the volume all the way up to ””11””!

If you are new to the world of guitar playing, it is likely that you will want to pick up skills that will improve your style of play. Some people go to lessons and there may be notices up in the guitar shop indicating where you can find local lessons. There will also be books and DVDs on sale that will provide walk through advice for any new guitarist and this will hopefully help any budding musician to pick up new talents and skills. Playing the guitar can require some patience but if you put in the effort; you will be rewarded with a great array of skills.
