3 Reasons Perishable Items Make the Best Gifts

By Sarah Gadey

Everyone loves receiving gifts. And there are gifts that can be given regardless of what the occasion is and still be welcomed and appreciated. Among these are flowers, cakes, fruit baskets, pies, breads, chocolates and many more. However, these gifts are perishable. Flowers dry out in a matter of days, cakes can go bad and so can fruits or chocolates. Why are these types of presents considered as great gifts?

1.They are general gifts. Perishable gifts are the kind of gifts that you can give no matter what the occasion. You can give flowers for someone who has a birthday, a wedding, a Christening, a graduation or whatever else the occasion may be. The same holds true for fruit baskets, cakes, cookies, pies and any other perishable gift. These gifts are not associated with one particular function or use or occasion and everyone loves to get flowers or food stuff.

2.Perishable gifts are much more personal than those impersonal gift vouchers or generic gifts like alarm clocks and picture frames. There are times when a cake becomes a very personal gift especially if it comes in the flavor and kind that the recipient loves. And who can ever think that strawberries and chocolates are impersonal gifts?

Gifts of perishable items have a significance that is unmatched by other material gifts. They convey feelings of love, nurturing and thoughtfulness. When someone gives you a bouquet of flowers and a basket of fruit, you feel appreciated and loved. You know that the person who gave you the gifts took time out to get you such thoughtful gifts.

This is very true more so during very trying economic times when not everyone can afford to buy expensive gifts. There are so many people who find it difficult to squeeze a gift into their budget so they take the time and they make the effort to make homemade goodies for the people they care about. That is why whenever you get a box of homemade cookies, your face lights up. You know that a lot of time, love and effort went into making it. And you also know that the giver cares for you enough to have gone that extra mile to bake those goodies for you.

Also, during tough economic times, most people would rather receive practical gifts like food baskets because these are of better use than a new blender or wall hanging. For a struggling family that has kids, a basket containing food items goes a long way in helping the family out. The same goes for someone who lives alone and may not have much time to prepare healthy meals.

3.Perishable gifts are not age-specific. It does not matter of the person having an occasion is a small child, a toddler, a teen ager, or a grandfather. It also does not matter of the recipient is male or female. Flowers will always light up faces. Cakes will always be warmly received. Chocolates will be relished. Fruits will be appreciated.
